Green festival
Every year the Lowlands Festival takes place in Biddinghuizen. For years the organisers have been working on solutions to make the festival more sustainable. Energy consumption remains a challenge here. Approximately 300,000 kWh of electricity is consumed per event. The major amount of electricity is currently generated by generators. With the construction of the solar carport, the festival is taking an enormous step towards sustainability.
Largest sustainable car park
The area of the eco-friendly car park covers a total of 35 hectares and offers space for 15,000 cars. With the help of 90,000 solar modules the plant provides an output of 38 MWp, which will soon be able to supply about 10,000 households with green electricity. This corresponds to the electricity consumption of about 100 festival weekends per year. The solar carport will remain at this location permanently.
Completion is scheduled for mid-2021
